Tonight and Tomorrow

Congregants,

Just a reminder that we will be having a dairy/parev pot luck dinner at 6pm, followed by our regular Friday night servicecongs tonight at 7pm.

Shabbat morning services start at 9 am tomorrow, with the torah reading starting at approximately 9:45.

Cantor Ben-Moshe’s Message:
This week we read Parashat Vayishlah, which details Ya’akov’s return to The Land after 20 years in exile.  In this parashah, Ya’akov recieves his new name of Yisrael, the name which our people and our homeland bear to this day.  The name means “struggles with God”-it is our destiny to struggle with our relationship to the Divine.  May our struggle be a worthy one.

Shabbat Shalom.

Shabbat Message from Cantor Ben Moshe

Message from the Cantor:

This week we read the parashah Toldot Yitzhak, in which we meet the twins Ya’akov and Esav.  Esav is the ancestor of the Edomites, while Ya’akov, Jacob, is of course the ancestor of the People of Israel.  Our Sages said that “the actions of the ancestors are an omen for their descendants.  Come to Beth El this Shabbat as we discuss the implications of the two brothers for the course of Jewish history.
